We had the great privlege of having Jeff Garvin, no stranger to revival, out to minister to us at IHOPE. Jeff was used mightily at the Lakeland Outpouring in Flordia and is used all across the world to impact others for passion for Jesus and to ignite fires of revival.
When you hear the word revival it may stir up all kinds of thoughts and ideas both negative and positive to those of us who are called Christians. I have personally heard several Christian Leaders, who I highly respect, with differing views on what revival is and what it looks like. But, by far, the best description I have heard of revival came this weekend through Jeff Garvin. It was simply profound:
“They exported what they imported in the Upper Room: You take the download outside.”
Revival starts with us as Christians, getting heavenly downloads from above. This can come only one way: getting to the “Upper Room” intimate place with Him who our heart loves. We don’t seek revival. Revival is not the goal. It’s the outcome. Jesus is the goal. Intimacy with Him is the goal. We must seek a relationship with Him that supercedes all else in our lives. He becomes our everything. And in that secret chamber of love, something happens. We are ignited, we are consumed and we behold His power:
O God, you are my God, earnestly I seek you; my soul thirsts for you, my body longs for you, in a dry and weary land where there is no water. I have seen you in the sanctuary and beheld your power and your glory. Because your love is better than life..my soul clings to you. Psalm 63
Now, we take our hearts dripping with Him and brimming with power, signs and wonders outside of the Church, outside of the Prayer Room to those who are dry and thirsty and without hope. This is how early Christianity developed and spread. It was birthed through revived hearts.
Look out when revived hearts full of the weighty presence of Jesus and beholding His power and glory visit your neighborhood, your workplace, or your Nation. It’s coming! Oh Lord, revive us in the secret place!

There is a stirring in our midst here at IHOPE that feels new and exciting. and at the same time sobering. Hmm. Odd isn’t it, to experience those things together? It feels as though we have reached a tipping point: Great demonstrations of power and great joy mixed with the heaviness of knowing the hour that we are living in and the fact that there are whole cities that that need to know Jesus.
One of the areas of greatest tipping or spilling over is seen in our young adult leaders. These men and women are 18-21 years old. They have moved into a deep place of radical devotion to Jesus and it is showing up tremendously in their leadership skills, their ability to teach and preach and basically how they choose to live their lives. Yes, we have poured into them. Yes, there has been teaching. But there is one they look to even more, whose river they choose to swim, float, dive and play in: The River of Life…Jesus. There is no substitute for hours spent with Jesus.
This is the very essence of the Prayer Room. One cannot simply learn his or her way to His side. It’s not merely a mental assent. When you drink of the river deeply, anointing will come gushing out of you. And so it has been with these young adults.
On Friday Nights we have very short teachings. Perhaps 15-20 minutes. It’s not scheduled, or planned in the traditional sense. It goes something like this: We have a pool of 7 leaders who know they have the liberty to speak on Fridays. Inevitably one will come forth during the week and ask to preach from that which has been burning and brewing in their hearts all week. The results for us is 15 minutes of heavenly download, birthed in the powerful place of encounter with Jesus. There is nothing quite like it. It has the power to change hearts and shake Nations.
This river is not reserved for the young, or those in leadership roles or for “the special ones”. It is for everyone who calls themselves Christian. The River is home to the Christian.
However, there is a calling to this next Generation that is so powerful and so strong. And those of us who are older and filled with wisdom of Godly years must come alongside and run the race well with them. They need us to run the race well with them. They need our encouragement, wisdom, love, and years of experience. It will help them run faster and smarter and stronger. And we in turn , become fit with the anointing that can only come from
encounter; annointing that can shake a Nation..a City..a heart.

In order to understand what true worship is, we have to study the life of David and the teachings of the Apostle Paul. Between these two men after God’s own heart it is clear that worship is meant to be a lifestyle. Christians are called to live a lifestyle of worship; a life of seeking Gods heart, knowing who his son is. Jesus says in John 4:23, “But the hour is coming, and now is, when true worshippers will worship the Father in spirit and in truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him.” God is seeking for a people who are spiritually alive, wanting to know Gods heart and wanting a revelation of who Jesus is. Why? Because He wants to reveal the deep things of his heart.
In order to make this a lifestyle we must understand that worship is not just a matter of gathering together in a group and singing songs together. There are three things important to true worship. They are the three elements that really are important to every aspect of Christian life. They are spirit, soul, and body. In 1 Thessalonians 5:23 Paul prays that God would sanctify us completely, our whole spirit, soul, and body. It is so important to keep all three of those elements together, especially in worship because first we are to worship in spirit and truth. The spirit is what allows us to make direct contact with God. Secondly, our soul made up of our intellect, emotion, and will, is where we make the decision with our will to engage and encounter the Lord with our spirit. Not only do we use our will for our spirit but it also is where we decide if we’re going to set our bodies in motion, or sit still; if we’re going to stand firm, or kneel before the Lord; if we’re going to be silent, or sing to the Lord.
A Worship lifestyle is simply bringing ourselves before the Lord everyday, and allowing ourselves to encounter Him. David tells us in the Psalms that we are to bring an offering and come into his courts everyday. We are called to a life of excellence; a life of our best and there are many offerings we can bring before the Lord, but our best offering is ourselves, our body, but we need to be willing in our soul to do that. Derek Prince once said, “Any religious activity that stops short of the offering of ourselves to God is not true worship.” True worship is a lifestyle of being willing to offer ourselves to the Lord, so that we may encounter Him and gain revelation of who He is daily.
