Here’s a quick podcast on my Drupal and WordPress anxieties. The purpose? To discover some CMS geniuses who can help alleviate my fears. I’ll be posting a video podcast in the next post… come on back within the hour to take a look at it.
I have no anxiety whatsoever with standard websites. If I lose a page, I simply click the upload button in Dreamweaver and we’re back to where we were in mere seconds.
This isn’t the case with CMS.
A single line of code gone bad can destroy an entire site… and if that site is thousands of posts deep, we have a problem.
Listen to the podcast and leave some comments. I’d love it if you could answer these questions with both Drupal and WordPress in mind:
- What is the easy, ‘slam dunk’, fool-proof method of backup and restore?
- What do I do if a single line of code (for example, in .htaccess) brings down the entire site? How do I find the offending code and file?
- What is the best of the best web host that specializes in Drupal and WordPress? I’m currently using 1and1.com.
- How can I restore if my server only allows 8mb of file uploads? (I had this problem when my WPMU failed. The restore file was over 20mb.)
- For Drupal, where can I find some magazine style themes for free? The themes are boring!
- Can I have true confidence in setting up my clients in WP and Drupal? Can I guarantee against data loss? Can a downed site be brought back up within an hour?
My WordPress site is www.revolutionexperience.com and my Drupal site is www.20elements.com.
Thanks!
